Ants + Spinning + K-OS

Boy, do I have new song for you. I played it for my spinning students at Revolve while forcing them to do an ungodly interval. They hated it. Then asked to do it again.
The song is Valhalla by K-OS. It’s best for cycling, running, and lawn mowing. (Yesterday when I mowed the loan, I put on my headphones and rocked out to this. I was so hype that I cut a really neat design in the grass. Then an ant bit me.) If you’ve never heard of K-OS, you can thank me with a gift card to Whole Foods.
Warning: This video was recorded on someone’s phone so things are muffled, but trust me, the song is dope. The full length, awesome version is available on itunes. Let me know what you think. xoxo Angel

Classical Music + Focus = Magic
I’ve been getting it in to this powerful instrumental. When you hear this song, it’s impossible to dilly-dally. If you have any soul, any goals, any reason to push for something better, “Requiem for a Dream” must be added to your workout playlist. This song also works when cramming for a deadline. There are no words to distract your thoughts just angry violins making you type real fast. Enjoy.

Workout motivation where you least expect it
This isn’t a workout song. This is a pre-workout song.
The next time you’re negotiating with yourself, telling yourself that you’ll “exercise tomorrow”, that you “deserve a break”, that you “worked out really hard last week”, play this song. Listen to the lyrics and watch your self-pity disappear. If by the end of this song, you aren’t lacing up your shoes, shadowboxing, or enroute to the gym, then perhaps you had the song on mute.
Stic.Man, from Dead Prez, is an exceptional talent. Instead of writing a song about the hoes in his area code, he wrote a song (wait, a whole cd) about exercising, eating right, believing in yourself, and going for your dreams. I’m so in love right now.

Music: Right thing to do
One of my readers, Yannii, put me on to SBTRKT. I had never heard of them before so I went searching through their songs. I was immediately drawn to Right Thing To Do. It’s good and sexy. Ow. This is going on my workout playlist.

uncoventional music that works
I am always searching for unconventional music because 1) there’s nothing good on the radio, 2) my spinning students depend on me to deliver stellar workout playlists, and 3) there’s nothing good on the radio.
This is a list of songs that I have used on my spinning playlists. They’re not mainstream and they’re not new. And that’s why they’re good. I encourage you to try these songs for your next workout.
1. Jai Ho by A.R. Rahman
2. Brighter Days by Cajmere
3. Rods and Cones by Blue Man Group
4. Un Poco Flamenco by Chilly Marry
5. Strangehold by Ted Nugent (This is an 8 minute rock song. If guitar rifts get your blood pumping, you will love this.)
Your assignment: Comment below with a great song that I haven’t heard before. I dare you to expose me to a amazing song.

How you like me now?
My client recommended I listen to ‘How you like me now?’ by The Heavy. Once I heard it I immediately added it to my workout playlist. It’s funky but what I love most is the shock value: you wouldn’t expect that voice to come out of that guy. I love when people do their own thang. Listen to this song and do you, boo.
What song is getting you hype these days?

Song: What part of forever
Picture your legs moving fast, your heart beating steady, and your eyes focused and smiling. What Part of Forever by Cee-Lo is the song that will make you forget you’ve got 3 more miles to go. When its time for cardio, turn this up and let your mind go free.
