Perspective: Is You or Is You Ain’t?

Perspective: Is You or Is You Ain’t?

This is my foot. Despite its current state, I honor it. This foot took me across the world.

Last December, Nancy, one of my beloved clients, treated me to a mani/pedi in celebration of my journey. Months later, this is that pedicure. See the remnants of pampering? The big toe still has most of the polish. Impressive, right? I realize you may disagree. The honeymoon is over.

Scanning myself, I flutter between pride and disgust. Look at me. Out in Asia. Livin’ the simple life.ย Walkin’ around barefoot. Clappin’ mosquitoes and drinkin’ coconuts.ย  I am so cool and rugged. Sometimes, it’s a different thought. Look at me. I hope no one’s looking at me. Did I wear this shirt yesterday? Yes. Yes, I did. At least it doesn’t smell. Does it? What is wrong with me?!

This fluttering is normal (for me) and benign – depending on which thought I land. Am I a success orย  I am a failure? That’s why you have to watch your thoughts. Thinking something doesn’t necessarily make it true. But if you think it enough, it becomes your truth.

Your perspective is effectual. The way you look at it is how it is. How are you choosing to see your life? If you are struggling with a situation, try changing your perspective. If that doesn’t work, maybe it’s time to change your situation. On that note, I’m going to get a pedicure.

*This jazz tune inspired the title.

If you ever need advice on music or want to run anything by me, I’d love to assist you in any way that I can.(I can’t believe I’ve been teaching for 10 years.) Please tell me when you teach your first class! Exciting.

  3. Angel!!!! Hope you enjoyed your pedi!! Sounds like your voyage is still progressing and going great!!! Your post is so on point with what my girlfriends and I have been focusing on lately…the battle ground of the mind and how our thoughts can really shape our lives our ability to appreciate ourselves and our ability to enjoy the life we have! Well…you know we still miss ya around here…but keep travelling and sharing wisdom! Ps…I finally completed the Madd Dogg course so now I’m working on putting together classes/music and getting some experience! No more excuses…I can’t stay a student forever ๐Ÿ˜‰!

    Take care…Caleen.

  4. @Badiyah. My thoughts go back and forth, too. It’s just important that ratio of good thoughts outweigh the bad. Whenever the bad thought happens don’t add to it with other bad thoughts. That’s when “the funk” feeling happens. Kill that bad thought with a good thought. For example, when you have rough moment just remember you’re the most fun, hypest, sangin’-est friend that I know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I had no idea you were still posting, I needed to hear this today as my thoughts are so bipolar (for lack of better word). Reading these make me feel like I’m on the journey with you, I’m so bout that Asian life, lol. Miss you friend!

  6. @Tommy. Triathlete. Husband. Father. Realtor. Tiger. HOw do you do it all? ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m excited to hear about the race. You’re right about the sprinting except none of that is happening on these asian streets.

  7. I can’t believe you have polish on from December –> changing my perspective –> but I’m really impressed it lasted so long! ๐Ÿ˜‰ xx.

  8. Your words are so true and spot on. And I agree with Tommy, if you are sprintin’ no one is looking at your feet. Also, I have a feeling if people are looking at you it’s because they’re admiring what a beautiful person you are – miss you friend!

  9. Whoa…..that is some deep dodo early in the morning(as I sit at my computer at 5:44am post my last morning swim before my 3rd, scratch, second tri of the summer).

My wife and daughter have been telling me that I need a pedi for years and that my toes are nasty. I am still holding out. From my perspective, your feet look damn good LOL.

I owe you an update email. It is coming after the race this weekend and it is a doozy.

BTW….no one can see your feet if you are sprinting.
